In today's world, where photos are captured and shared at an unprecedented rate, the duplicate images can easily accumulate across various devices and platforms, leading to cluttered galleries and unorganized files. You might also find yourself downloading the same images multiple times. Also, you probably have similar images with slight edits stored on your hard drive. Even if you have a valid use for those images, you ultimately don't need to keep multiple copies of the same file.

The popularization of digital cameras has led to an increasing number of repetitive, similar photos stored in our computer, and this problem is exacerbated by the rapid progress of mobile camera. Because in order to get a satisfying picture, we may take dozens or even hundreds of photos to choose from. This ends up filling our computers, phones and digital cameras with a mass of duplicate photos that should have been deleted. Not only does this lead to a huge waste of disk space, but more importantly, it makes photos become so chaotic and harder to manage.

There are two major possibilities for the generation of duplicate photos on a computer: 1) multiple copies of the exact same photo, which are mostly forgotten in multiple folders or different storage devices; 2) multiple photos taken in the same or very similar scenes, most of the time we don't have time or feel bother to delete those redundant ones. Duplicate photos do waste a lot of disk space, especially those with high resolution. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to remove duplicates and keep our photos collection organized.
