The speed at which systems and applications run on a computer is affected by the hardware configuration, and one of the computer components that plays a decisive role in this issue is the hard disk drive. In addition to traditional HDDs and now common SSDs, there is a virtual disk called RAM disk. It is created from a part of the physical memory installed on the computer, and it has the advantage of being much faster (hundreds to thousands of times faster) than mechanical hard disks and even SSDs for reading and writing data.

First of all, you need to know that RAM has a maximum read/write speed of 100 times that of SSD and 200 times that of HDD. Therefore, when the physical memory is large enough, we can use some tools to create a virtual disk partition in the memory to specially store some frequently used programs and files (mainly temporary files generated by operating system or web browser), thus significantly improving the running speed of OS and software, and extending the service life of HDD and SSD.
