UMLet is a free and open-source lightweight UML drawing tool (rather than a modelling tool with underlying dictionary or directory of reusable design objects) for Windows, Mac and Linux platforms, written in Java. It is powerful and easy to use, can be used as a standalone app, can also be used as a plug-in for Eclipse, and even provides a browser-based online version.

UMLet has a simple user interface, can quickly build various UML diagrams (including use case diagrams, class diagrams, object diagrams, state diagrams, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, collaboration diagrams, component diagrams, deployment diagrams, etc.), diagrams can be exported as BMP, GIF, EPS, PDF, JPG, PNG, SVG and other formats, and you can create new, custom UML elements in Eclipse.

UMLet is designed for teaching the Unified Modeling Language and for quickly creating UML diagrams. It uses text input instead of popup dialog boxes to modify UML elements. Elements can be modified and used as templates. In this way, users can easily customize UMLet according to their modeling needs.
