It was originally written in C++ by Christophe Dumez (from France) in 2006 when he was a student. Now it's maintained by worldwide volunteers on their spare time. qBittorrent is a free, open-source and cross-platform BitTorrent client (torrent file downloader) with nice UI based on Qt and built-in search engines.

As a fast and reliable alternative of the most popular two BT clients: uTorrent & BitTorrent, qBittorrent came with similar features but beautifier, easier and more intuitive UI. And compared with other popular BT clients, we think it's lighter than Vuze, more beautiful than Deluge, and comes with more functions than Transmission. As to uTorrent & BitTorrent, at least, qBittorrent is open source and based on the libtorrent (BitTorrent development library of C++), which has 2 times of improvement on performance to them.

Key Features

  • Polished µTorrent-like User Interface
  • Well-integrated and extensible Search Engine
  • All Bittorrent extensions support
  • Remote control through a Web user interface
  • Advanced control over trackers, peers and torrents
  • UPnP / NAT-PMP port forwarding support
  • Available in multiple languages with Unicode support
  • Torrent creation tool
  • Advanced RSS support with download filters (inc. regex)
  • Bandwidth scheduler
  • IP Filtering (eMule and PeerGuardian compatible)
  • IPv6 compliant
  • Sequential downloading (aka "Download in order")
  • Available on most OS platforms

Prompts

  • We found a big problem in long-term practical use: qBittorrent can sometimes cause the entire network to crash completely - no downloading speed!
