In order to reproduce Vagrant Story's game levels (rooms, weapons, props, enemies, etc.), for a long time I searched everywhere and looked for any tool that could extract sound and graphics files from this my only favorite PSOne video game. The Vagrant Story Tools, which seems to be the most effective and perfect solution now, may be just a joke and scam - it never works (and its developers do not respond to any feedback). Finally, only PSound and its sister software PSicture (the later requires PSi_VARY, but I couldn't make it work) can help us a little.
PSound is a free sound player, extractor and converter for PlayStation games, written by snailrush from France in 2002. It is primarily used to play and extract the encrypted music or sound files in PlayStation (PS1 and PS2) game discs.

PSound can play sound files mainly from PlayStation (PSOne) and PlayStation 2 game ROMs. It is able to scan any files with sound data inside, direct play them, and store the information about these data in playlist files, without having to rip/copy them to your local hard disk first. Besides, it also allows to convert them to the WAV format of audio files, if you really want to do that.
If your OS is Windows 7 and PS Sound crashes, just run the program in Windows 95 compatibility mode. To know much more about PSound's features and learn about some other issues, please read its online/offline help manual.
