MikuMikuDance (MMD for short) is a very small, simple but powerful and easy-to-use free 3D animation program, developed by Yu Higuchi (樋口 優) from Japan in 2008, using C++ and DirectX SDK. It enables users to animate and create 3D animated films, and is mainly used by fans of the Sony/Sega VOCALOID product to make promotion videos of VOCALOID series.
As part of the VOCALOID Promotion Video Project (VPVP), MikuMikuDance was originally created for the VOCALOID character Hatsune Miku, allowing the 3D models of Hatsune Miku to dance freely. The program itself was programmed by Yu Higuchi (HiguchiM), and has undergone major upgrades since its creation. As a result, it not only drove a series of 3D animation production industry chains, but also became the savior of civilian 3D software by the way. Through it, even newcomers who have never been exposed to 3D animation can easily create real 3D animations.
MikuMikuDance is mainly used for the production of dance videos of 3D models of characters such as VOCALOID's Hatsune Miku. Of course, it also allows users to import their own character models, as well as sound and music, scenes, dance movements and other files, and then generate a music video. Users can change the model's positions, movements, and even facial expressions, apply motion data to the model to make it move, apply special effects such as lens flares and AutoLuminous (an effect that makes things glow and light up), and use Microsoft's Kinect for motion capture ,etc. In short, you can use your imagination to create as much as you like.
