Meteor, Butterfly and a blade (originally called 流星蝴蝶劍.net, AKA: Meteor Blade, 流星·蝴蝶·劍, Meteor, Butterfly, Sword, Liuxing Hudie Jian) is an action role-playing 3D game adapted from the famous martial arts novel of the same name by Gu Long from China, developed and released by 昱泉國際 (InterServ International) from Taiwan in China in 2002. It is the world's first martial arts-style 3D fighting online battle game.
Meteor, Butterfly and a blade is something of an offbeat existence in the entire gaming industry. Because there has never been a game of this type on the Internet before. It did not choose the popular and mature gameplay of turn-based, ARPG or fighting games at the time, but chose a 3D fighting game that was more hard-core and more difficult to develop. Players can fight at will in an open world, the third-person trailing perspective allows players to clearly see all the actions of the characters, and can take into account the display of the game environment. This kind of design was unprecedented in martial arts games at the time. It is this advanced design idea that makes this game highly praised among the player community.
Meteor, Butterfly and a blade supports multiple game modes in stand-alone and online modes. In the stand-alone game mode, the player plays the role of a "killer". Each level has its own different scenes, trap designs, story backgrounds, powerful BOSSes and victory conditions. The game is very difficult, and the gameplay is tense and exciting. In the online mode, players can fight as a team and enjoy an unprecedented new experience in martial arts e-sports.
The game's unique gameplay and modes have elevated players' martial arts complex to a whole new level once again. But where the game really makes people feel the martial arts complex is not only reflected in the plot and gameplay of the single-player mode, but also focused on the tacit understanding and self-discipline between players in the multi-player mode. After all, there is endless fun in fighting with others, and this is where the joy of competitive confrontation lies.
Meteor, Butterfly and a blade can be said to have established its "unprecedented" status from the moment of its birth. Because this game was revolutionary to the entire gaming industry at the time. At that time, other martial arts games were still in a era that was dominated by Diablo and turn-based games, and 3D fighting games like this were still regarded as "impossible" works. At least, its achievements in China can be said to be epoch-making. Among Internet café games at the time, its popularity was second only to Counter Strike.
The second work of Meteor, Butterfly and a blade is 流星蝴蝶劍.net, which added an online battle function. Its third work is 流星蝴蝶劍OL, which disappeared after its official promotion in 2008. Because its developer's game business was still stagnant, and the management did not give it much substantial support, it was eventually sold to Perfect International out of commercial considerations. In 2013, its fourth work 新流星搜劍錄 (Master of Meteor Blades) was officially released. However, its active players dropped sharply, and it could only announce its suspension.
