Materialize is an amazing free image to material conversion tool, developed by Bounding Box Software. It can quickly and easily generate high-quality tileable 3D materials for use in game development. With it, you can create an entire material from a single image or import the texture map you have and generate any other texture map you need.
Materialize enables you to convert a single source image to different material maps (Height, Normal, AO, Edge, Metalness, and Smoothness) required in a modern PBR operation flow in just seconds, with real-time and 3D interactive preview and editing. It can refine texture maps, seamlessly join them together, automate common operations using XML clipboard commands, has layer erasing feature, which allows users to display the generated texture maps and source images side by side. In addition, it also provides shader packs for Unity and Unreal Engine game engines to use.
Materialize started out as a commercially paid product for game development, but is completely free and open-source now. It works on the same principle as paid-for tools such as Allegorithmic's Bitmap2Material and Rendering Systems' Knald, converting source images into texture maps. Compared to CrazyBump and ShaderMap, it has the advantages of being more versatile than CrazyBump, and simpler and lighter than ShaderMap.
