Battle Garegga (AKA: ???????, Batoru Garegga), the first time I played this arcade shooting game was about 2000. Since then, I've been searching for it until today. Just because I didn't remember its name, I had almost collected all the classic air war games for arcade console and PC. As a classic air war arcade game, you can once find Battle Garegga in almost every arcade game room. Compared with other similar arcade games, what makes this game different, interesting and attractive is you can collect both the scores and coins popped out of enemy planes, moreover that is cumulative. So the coin values you can get will be bigger and bigger. Of course, if you are accidentally interrupted, the next time the coin value popped out will start from the minimum value.

Another remarkable characteristic of Battle Garegga is you can change the guard flights' attack modes at will, such as front, back, left or right attack, eight directions turning attack. So in the battle reasonably switching the guard planes' attack modes is very helpful most of time.

BTW, the bullets fired by many enemies appear slender, tight and slow, sort of like steel needles. Shuttling and avoiding under such kind of barrage is always an enjoyment for air war game enthusiasts.

How to display another 4 hidden fighters

Press "Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, C, Start" at the title screen, you can choose the 4 Mahou Daisakusen fighters:
  • Gain
  • Chitta
  • Miyamoto
  • Bornnam

Tips

When selecting your fighter plane, the fighter can be customized by pressing different buttons:
  • A: Normal power
  • B: Increases speed
  • C: Slightly reduces hitbox size (also makes powerups/medals harder to pick up)
  • A+B+C: increases speed and slightly reduces hitbox size
