Castlevania 1986 (AKA: CastleVania 1, Akumajou Dracula, 悪魔城ドラキュラ, Akumajō Dracula, Devil's Castle Dracula) is the opening work of KONAMI's whole Castlevania series video game. First released on FDS (Famicom Disk System) platform in Japan in 1986, and was transplanted to NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) platform in EU/US later in the 1987 and 1988. So it also can be called Castlevania FDS/NES.

In addition to uncovering the prelude of kindness and enmity between Belmont family and Vampire Lord Dracula, Castlevania 1 had laid the basic combat modes and set the whip and secondary weapons system of the whole Castlevania series. However, in the story line it is not the origin of Castlevania, but one of its combat history.

Moreover, Castlevania 1 has quite a successful music production, especially the piece of VAMPIRE KILLER at the entrance. Although it is not the most beautiful BGM in Castlevania series, it absolutely is the most representative one (you will find many subsequent sequels have the similar music).

In today's view to see the graphics of FC console may be out of date, but for all the Castlevania fans, I believe Castlevania 1 has a special significance. BTW, in fact the whip in Castlevania is called VAMPIRE KILLER and all hero in all generations of Castlevania should be called VAMPIRE HUNTER, which should not be confused.
