Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist is a perfect (exhaustive and absorbing) human anatomy reference book for both beginners and intermediate artists. It's planned and written by Stephen Rogers Peck with a completeness and orderliness, first published as a paperback by Oxford University Press in 1982, and gets mentioned a lot on many online art forums around the world now.

Although this is just a handbook (only 272 pages), Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist is ingeniously edited, well-organized, clearly labeled, and illustrated with almost 1000 excellent factual 3D renderings, as well as some figure drawing tips and instructions. The entire book is divided into 7 parts which cover almost everything about human anatomy: Bones, Muscles, Surface Anatomy, Proportion, Equilibrium And Locomotion, Distinctions of Age, Sex, And Race, Agents of Expression. All this makes it remain simple to ?be understood and unsurpassed as a classic manual for most students on art or human form.

Compared to another bestseller book: Dorling Kindersley's Anatomy for the Artist, the theory part of Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist is broader (that is it lays particular emphasis on theory), and the illustrations in this book are just enough, not as many as Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist. But it is satisfactory as a whole.
